I love anime but it has it's problems and one to begin with is how plain this entertainment is. When a film such as perfect blue comes and it's the only real film of it's kind, it's wonderful. Without any answers to the end, and a plot you can try to unravel for as long as you try perfect blue is a big confusing nightmare. Yet it is so excellent that it doesn't matter anymore whether you get it or not. PB is perfect as a thriller, it never lingers off, and the rape scenes, nudity, gore, and bizzare eeriness create an entierly new demension of anime. this is one of the only few great anime films ever made, I couldn't even name 10 in total, but perfect blue would still be way up there even if there were a million great anime movies. 9.8/10

Whoever wrote and directed this is a fucking genius. Creating this plot is like making a big castle using a deck of cards, it should fall apart but it never does. It has a fantastic main character, a great twist (eventough a few things cost it credibility), gnarly and I mean gnarly scenes (the rapes were so fucking intense), a lot of style and a chilling score. Probably the best mindfuck I've seen. Mulholland Drive can go stick a crayon up its nose. 9/10.

I thought Perfect Blue was very good, but it couldn't touch David Lynch's surreaslist masterpiece, Mulholland Drive. I have given quite a bit of thought towards my interpretation of the events of Perfect Blue, and have included that interpretation below. ***SPOILER ALERT: FULL MOVIE SPOILERS PRESENTED BELOW*** I have decided that either Mima or Rumi is a multiple personality and that either MIma is one of Rumi's personalities or Rumi is one of Mima's. I have come to this conclusion because both Mima and Rumi see visions of "pop idol Mima" and it would be impossible for two different people to be seeing the same hallucination. I have decided that none of the events in the movie take place in the real world. They are all delusions occuring in Rumi/Mima's mind. There may be some basis in reality. For instance, there may be a real pop duet called Cham that Rumi/Mima believe Mima is a third member of. There may be a real TV program called Double Bind. But these are just props for Rumi/Mima's delusions. ...

Perfect Blue is the ultimate mind-fuck. By the time the end credits roll, you won't be sure of anything anymore. A long, labryinthine (spelling?) series of twists, turns, dream sequences, hallucinations, flashbacks, and plain old fashioned weird shit comes together into a story of a young women questioning her sanity and the nature of the world around her. The sort of movie that stays with you for a long time.

A brief Brock Landers Overview of A Satoshi Kon Film (9/10) This is one amazing little bit of anime. "Perfect Blue" has been called "Hitchcock meets Disney" by none other than Roger Corman, the king of indie filmmaking, and its appeal is definitely for those who love films that are for "mature audiences only". The story revolves around Mima Kirigoe, a 21-year-old Britney Spears-type pop singer who decides to become a "serious" actress on a televison drama. Wierd things start to happen as she is stalked by a strange "fan" and her fan website starts to know a little too much private information about her. She then gets pushed into changing her goody-goody image by doing a rape scene on the TV show, as well as nudie pictures, something I'm sure Britney Spears has been offered. Then the TV show's plot eerily mirrors her own life as things spiral out of control. It is a great film because the anime artwork is brilliant, and the honesty with which it portrays Japan...
