From 14th to 24th August silent films - mostly two per night - will be shown open-air in the inner courtyard of Bonn University. The films are always accompanied by Germany's and Europe's top silent film musicians, such as Aljoscha Zimmermann, Günther Buchwald and Joachim Bärenz. The festival is well-established and - as it is free as well! - draws quite a steady crowd even in bad weather! You can tell the regulars by the amount of bivouac equipment they carry. The programme is always a good mixture of German, European and American films. Silent drama normally takes precedence over comedy. New restorations are showcased and the best quality prints are obtained from around the world. This is a big affair under the patronage of, among others, the Munich Film Museum. On the two Sundays there is normally a programme of film lectures in the Rheinisches Landesmuseum in Bonn, where rare gems are shown to the discerning (and paying) few.
