There was no need to take it public unless it was a tactic to squeeze Marvel. I guess it worked but it's time to put this silly stuff behind us. Favs did a great job and deserves to benefit. I'm confident IM2 will be just as good if not better. | | Static Link |

I was thinking , we may have received a glimpse of what a remake of Robocop be like , that's what i was thinking during the final fight in IM . | | Static Link |

| Posted by: dellamorte dellamore at June 14, 2008, 2:15 pm | | Topic: Iron Man Forum: JoBlo | | Now i have to eat crow , i finally watch this today , and it is terrific . There's really no lulls in the action , it runs at a brisk pace without missing a narrative beat . Downey's verbal exchanges with his supercomputer and to a lesser extent with the all purpose robot are hilarious , great writing and or improv and delivery in these scenes . I have to admit , the cgi didn't look that great in the trailers , but when you see this on the big screen with digital sound , it bonkers , you really get the sense of speed and power when he's flying through the air . The visual fx are a joy to behold , and the sound effects just bring the whole package together . Downey does own the role , he seems so confident and in control of his craft like he's never been before . But Bridges , in one of his most effective roles , is truly menacing like he's never been before . This isn't the usual mustache twirling baddie that becomes a caricature , he really nailed this part . Paltrow is serviceable , i'm not saying she's ba... | | Read Entire Entry |

| Posted by: corran horn at June 10, 2008, 9:06 am | | Topic: Iron Man Forum: JoBlo | | Just reading back through the reviews and felt I had to comment on something. While they have been thankfully few and far between, there are a few Paltrow-haters who can't seem to bury their hatchets. While most of the films she's appeared in have not impressed me, she shines in the best ones (Se7en, Royal Tennanbaums), and she shined in this one. My biggest beef with past superhero films has been that the females close to the hero have very little to reccomend themselves (save for Margot Kidder). They're either annoying, immature, or borderline incompetent. Paltrow, however, has given us someone who can stand toe-to-toe with the leading man and be just as witty/heartfelt (and when that man is RDJ, that is no easy task). The scene where she threatens to resign was one of the best she and Robert shared. As Cosmic, Shockwave, and Optimus have it absolutely right: their relationship, besides being the best-developed and most believable of any recent superhero film, gave Iron Man that extra bit of gravitas. | | Static Link |

I just heard we see Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark in The Incredible Hulk, not as Iron Man. I've been wrong before though. | | Static Link |

Upon my second viewing, I dragged my wife, who isn't really into movies or superheroes. She reluctantly went in and came out saying "We are gonna own that when it comes out on DVD." The script for this film was nearly flawless. No dialogue was wasted. Every scene had great purpose and direction. It was just amazing to watch this story come alive. There is a real transformation for hero Tony Stark as the film progresses. Building the suit and experimenting with it made for some hilarity as he got used to his new gadgets and gear. His interacions with Pepper were warm without being too touchy feely. There was real chemistry between them without being too gooey and over the top. Some moments were accentuated with embarassment and awkwardness while others played on the feelings under the professional relationship. I'm glad the romantic involvement was minimal and underlying. As far as I know, IM and Hulk don't share a scene together yet, but I would plan on one in the sequel (as a further prelude to the Avengers). DMM: You might enjoy IM even more on a repeat viewing. I've seen it 3 times and it gets better every time. The only complaint I had was with the score, and by the second viewing, that complaint was nonexistent. As for the villains...I wouldn't be surprised if the heads of real-life weapons manufacturers actually secretly want to be (or are) just like Obadiah Stane. They're just not as honest about it. The chief insurgent strikes me as a secularized version of (insert current terrorist target here); same general goal, only not cloaked in religion. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: DaMovieMan at May 26, 2008, 12:32 am | | Topic: Iron Man Forum: JoBlo | | It's a great film, full of funny lines and situations, and exciting action. Robert Downey Jr. is quite perfect as Tony Stark and completely steals the show (as it should be). I think this is the only movie where Paltrow wasn't annoying but actually cute as Pepper Pots and the rest of the cast was all-around great, right down to the cheesy villains that seem to belong in the comic-book universe. The storyline is predictable but the flow never lets you go with almost every scene asking and getting your full attention. My favorite part: the return to the Middle East as Iron Man, by far the best action sequence and the race with the jets that ensues was a great capping off and final injection of adrenaline. The flaws include the predictability of the story-line and the poorly done finale with Jeff Bridges which felt a bit anti-climatic after a couple of really great action scenes through-out the movie. Not the best superhero movie of all time, but definitely in the top 5, just for having the best casting choice ... | | Read Entire Entry |
| Posted by: MadsenOMC at May 24, 2008, 12:46 pm | | Topic: Iron Man Forum: JoBlo | | SPOILERS! This is a fun movie. I was able to shut my brain off and enjoy it. Downey, Jr. is as good as advertised, the action scenes are exciting and kinetic, and the score is fantastic. It's not perfect. The story beats are predictable. Of course Bridges is the main villain, of course he'll realize he loves the long-suffering assistant, etc. Paltrow is pretty bad and the blossoming romance is weak. I was also disappointed in the villains. Namely, the bald Middle Eastern guy (he might as well have cackled and twirled a mustache) and Bridges (who spouts off all the normal villain lines at the end of the movie). They're just not memorable and the kind you love to hate. They're routine. Overall, though, it's a great summer movie. It moves along quickly and it delivers the goods. It's cool watching him develop the first suit in the cave and then the enhanced suit at his (spectacular) house. It's satisfying watching him return to the Middle East and kick ass. It gave me my money's worth while also leaving me want... | | Read Entire Entry |

He's perfect for the role, and I think Marvel is going to do a fury movie eventually (aside, Is stark and fury were on screen together, that represents the last two prominet directors of SHIELD in the same room at the same time. Wow!) Also, years ago, when the Ang Lee Hulk movie came out, and bigred finally persuaded me to see it on DVD, one of the things about the story that pissed me off is that the Hulk destroys a major populated area, and SHIELD doesn't show up to stop him. Anyway, on to Iron Man. re origin story I think it makes more sense to have an origin story for a character like Iron Man, whom the general public really doesn't know a whole lot about, then for a guy like Superman or Batman, whose origin ... | | Read Entire Entry |
