This movie went one way with the comedy and another way with the romance shit. It would have been better if it just stuck with the comedy. Some parts were really funny but then brought down by the romance. Ben Affleck was good and so was Sandra Bullock but she got annoying. They worked well together but i just didn't beleive alot of the things that happened to them. Like all the transportation problams they had. I give it a 6\10

well, True Romance would be an odd remake, its only been fifteen years since its release. I dont think it made that much though so i guess some people have still yet to see this true romance classic. The only thing is, no one could write that as well as Tarantino, even if they had his original script to work off of it, and no one could do those roles better than the guys that did them. Love Lies Bleeding - 6/10 my first 2008 movie. It was a pretty simple rehash of True Romance, it basically just lacked all of the originality, and had pretty generic characters. It was entertaining though, and Christian Slater is always fun to watch, switching up his character in this one, instead of running away like in True Romance, this time hes doing the chasing. But i cant really say this was a good movie. Just around average.

I'd rank TRUE ROMANCE 9/10, equally to PULP FICTION. It's my fav. Tarrantino flick by far ( it used to be PULP FICTION but after every silly sucker on my school had seen it and quoted it all day long, it shortly became my most-hated Tarrantino movie. It's great though!). True Romance has everything that is Tarrantino, and it works better than RESERVOIR DOGS, I think. The characters are sympathic, the violence is harsh and the dialogue is funny. And it has Elvis. I hate Elvis, but that angle was cool in the movie. Dennis Hopper & Christopher Walken act the shit out of each other here, that's actually my favorite scene in the whole movie. Arquette isn't exactly my favorite actress ( I thought she sucked mightily in BRINGING OUT THE DEAD ) but it's definitely the best performace of hers I've ever seen. So yes, I wish that TRUE ROMANCE would be remembered as the ultimate Tarrantino Classic.

"Message In A Bottle" is a quiet little romance-drama flick that works because of earnest and likeable acting by Kevin Costner and Robin Wright Penn. I also enjoyed the supporting cast of Paul Newman as Costner's old crusty dad, Robbie Coltrane as Penn's editor and Illeana Doughlas his her co-worker/friend. The film is also enhanced by beautiful locates of Cape Cod and N. Carolina coastline and beautifully filmed by Caleb Deschanel and underscored by lovely music by Gabriel Yared. Robin Wright Penn, as Theresa Osborne, the Chicago research journalist comes off as oh so sweet and you oh so want her to hook up with wounded widower Garret Blake, played by Kevin Costner. Costner at his quiet best in romance flicks, and here again is suited to the role of N. Carolina loner boat builder. Some may say the film slow, but what's important here is the process of romance, not the end result, as two wounded souls try to make their way to each other. The ending is appropriate as in these tear jerker romance fli...

I finally caught all the Oscar nominated films, this one being the last. It's superb in nearly all areas, but the flaws in storytelling bothered me too much whilst I watched. I had to ask myself a couple of times, "Who's story is this?" Is it Robbie's or is it Briony's? Well, that got sorted out at the end, but I didn't like having that question pop into my mind whilst watching it. Because I got to know very little about who Cecelia is, I didn't care one way or another about her. That shallow characterization led to a rather shallow romance. I longed to learn more about Briony; she seemed to have lots of potential for rich characterization. From what I've read here, she has in the book, but I didn't see it translated very much on screen. I feel I should feel something about her after the film, but I really don't. James McAvoy did a superb job with Robbie, the one character we get to know well, so I cared deeply about him. So I found the movie disappointing. It's gorgeous to look at, well-directed, ...

Angel Eyes 4/10... Angel Eyes is a horrible thriller/romance that should have stayed a thriller. It had a lot of potential with Jennifer Lopez who I have liked in the past(The Cell, Out of Sight) and Jim Caviesel who was very good in Frequency. What starts out a s a cool premise and an interesting thriller turns into a sappy and unbelievable romance story. They both seemed out of place and there was no chemistry. Most of the second part of the film is them arguing with each other, and J.Lo's character having issues with her family. It was just boring unentertaining and by that time I lost interest. One of the worst I've seen this year.

I'll join JoBlo on this one. I like Say Anything. I think it's probably one of the better teen romances. That said I was mystified when EW picked it as the #1 Romance of the Modern Era. Don't get me wrong there is much to admire about the film. John Cusak gives a winning performance as Lloyd Dobler the misfit who hasn't a clue what he wants to do, very little ambition or goal direction. And his romance with Ione Skye's Diana is utterly charming. The way they came from totally different worlds and yet connected at some deeper level that went beyond intelligence and his world and her world was beautiful.
And John Mahoney's creepy dad is worth the price of a rental alone. Not to mention a knowing, warm script that expresses respect not contempt for it's characters. Plus one of the great movie songs no not In Your Eyes I'm talking the song of the movie Joe Lies. (That scene alone is worth seeing the movie. Lili Taylor rocks!) Surreal musical romance starring Nicole Kidman as a Parisian nightclub singer who must choose between a dorky rich patron and a smoldering poor writer. The film innovates an operatic musical format in which songs of different Twentieth Century genres are chosen for their hook-lines, and performed in loud, overbearing medleys. Love it or hate it, if you buy into the childish romance angle you can't get enough of the overwhelming visual and sound images. If you don't feel like being dazzled, you're in for a long and painful wait for the movie's merciful end.

The actual title to Cloverfield should've been The CW/Days of Our Lives presents A MONSTER MOVIE. First of all, I can't stand it when films now, especially more in the horror genre have pretty people as the leads. Where are all of the non 18 - 26 yr. old people when this shit hits the fan. My second issue with the movie is that it's a romance film, marketed as a monster movie. Don't get me wrong, the monster stuff is great, loved every minute of that. But this movie is mainly romance driven. And that just drives me up the wall. They spend time building up this whole romantic plot, and ends with a romantic plot, with a heavy drive of romance in between. Oh, and there's also a monster running around. But hell, we need to know about this relationship between these two people, don't we?! NO, WE DON'T! The monster is the most interesting part, dammit! Plus, the first act of introducing everyone and their situation is completely needless. Blair Witch did it perfectly in comparison. We don't really need to know who...

"Frankie And Johnny" is a romance-drama-comedy that stars Al Pacino as Johnny the cook and Michelle Pheiffer as Frankie the waitress. The two main stars were good in their parts but you have Johnny continuously pushing a romance and broken-winged Frankie continuously pulling away from the romance and after a while it gets a little tiring towards the end of the film. Thank goodness director Garry Marshall inserted a talented cast of supporting players that served up some funny comedy. That scene with Kate Nelligan in bed with spike heels was a riot and the scene where Kate and Michelle were trying to get Jane Morris to say a dirty word was also a riot. I got a big kick out of Nathan Lane and his funny one liners and liked Hector Elizondo as the kind hearted Greek cafe owner. Frankie and Johnny were a little too morose for my tastes, but the sparkling supporting cast made the film a joy to watch.

I watched Albert Brooks' "Modern Romance" again last night, and I'd add that to the list of great Eighties films, along with its successor, "Lost in America." It's very tricky to make a movie that is so much of its time yet doesn't feel dated, but "Modern Romance" achieves that - it just bleeds early Eighties, for those of us who lived through that time, but it's aged a lot better than something like "On Golden Pond" or "Chariots of Fire." I suppose that's the difference between making a film whose subject is thoroughly steeped in a time period, and making one whose techniques are steeped in that period. If there's one thing in the world that makes me throw up it's these gushingly sentimental love letters to the "romance" of film such as "Cinema Paradiso". Europeans making cow eyes at those images on the screen is a downright sickening spectacle. It was a very good romance movie that more people should see. It's not everyday you see an original romance movie and Sliding Doors is just that, an original, funny, sweet romantic comedy. Gwyneth Paltrow is GREAT and charming as ever in this movie. Her and her character are irresistible and we really care about her and sypathize with her. Outside Providence - 3/10. Despite JoBlo's warning (which I hadn't read first), I went into this thinking, "A Farrelly Brothers Movie?" how awesome!! Wonder why I hadn't heard about it? And how come Miramax picked it up instead of Fox? Well, all of these questions were answered after watching this movie. It's definately not a "Something About Mary" grossout movie, and really isn't that humorous (Miramax was clever putting that sticker on that reads "bonus grossout takes" - what grossouts? there are none) .. And it moves very slow without many surprises to be had. I guess this was the Farrelly attempt at a comedy-romance-drama, that just didn't work for me. I had a few brief laughs here and there, but the whole thing was just too sappy. I was really looking forward to this film since I saw the poster in early summer, but you should never judge a movie by its poster. To start off, I have loved the book for years, since I was a kid; one of the books best appreciated by a child, and although Disney was producing it, I hoped for it to overcome those ugly Disney-esque, family movie qualities. Well, I was disappointed, now I don't want to go right off the bat and say this was "a terrible film," but I wanted more than what I got. First of all, there were too many contrived moments that did not "ring true". Mostly due to the bad acting, mostly by Jackson, Bairstow. Bledel was okay, but very amateurish, it felt like there was someone in the background telling her how to act; it all seemed forced. I did however, think the romance was believable, because the ending, depending on how well the romance goes, can bring you to tears. I wasn't brought to tears, but pretty close. I'm glad to say that the ending was one of the things they ...

I just saw Pearl Harbor for the first time yesterday, and if it weren't for the kickass attack scene, I probably would have hated this movie. The romance is dull and the script is poorly written and full of cliches. I can't believe the man who wrote for us Braveheart (10/10) couldn't come up with a better script than this. I didn't care much about the characters, and thus I was bored during the romance scenes and indifferent during the sad scenes. The acting was a redeeming quality, though. This is the first time I have been impressed by Ben Affleck as an actor, and this is the first (but hopefully not last) time I've seen Kate Beckinsale and Josh Harnett in action and I thought they were great. I also liked the small parts by Cuba Gooding Jr (who should have been in the movie a lot more than he was), Tom Sizemore, Mako (who got all the best lines), Alec Baldwin (who got the most cliched lines) and especially the show-stealing Jon Voight as President FDR. One of my favorite parts was when he stood up in orde...

I agree with you about the 3rd act, but i also think there wasn't any other way to go. Realism, life has ups and downs anywhere anytime and i like the fact this film didn't try to manipulate that fact for film goers. Most of the scenes at the beginning of the film were over the top while the last sequences being loud were quieter. I think the film's main problem is the love story, how Bond gets attached so quick to that woman (Eva Green), why is that? Some other Bond women have gone through a lot more with the character, demonstrated more beauty in appearance and character. What is it that sets this one appart. Their romance, what romance where? I still gave Casino Royale 8.5/10 a gem. Also, I really agree about the (horrible) Legend of Zorro but i don't think Martin Campbell is to blame for that. Check out my review of Casino Royale. Agent out!
