so what they are saying is they don't want their movie going teenagers to find out that Russia used to be Communist just like Japan still distort their country's history that they teach in their schools. so movie fantasy from the West NOT OK but SANITIZING your history by omitting the truth is OK (like Japan still won't admit to the Nanking Massacre and they have written their history textbook to make it sound like it never happened).

It works with history biopics, drama and the occasional thriller. When horror movies claim to be inspired by a true story, they tend to be shit. Texas Chainsaw Massacre is a perfect example. I can't even count the number of dimwits who knew nothing about the history of the event and relied completely on the movie itself. (people like this vote too, it's scary)

I had a high school history teacher who told my class that "The Great Train Robbery" in 1903 was the first film ever, i.e. the first time action was ever captured on film. I raised my hand and corrected him, saying that I had seen films of President Mckinley's funeral (which had occurred in 1901), and that what he probably meant was that "The Great Train Robbery" was the first film to tell a story. He refused to back down, and said that I was wrong and that he was right. I just shrugged. Now, I am a high school teacher and I am appalled at the misinformation that continues to be spread by my fellow teachers. A student of mine seeing "Gone With the Wind" in her US History Class told me that her history teacher announced to the class "Clark Gable was the first man to take off his shirt in a movie." It was then bullied into the shadows as effectively as Paine was hounded on his deathbed to recant his deism, followed by his grave being vandalized and his memory desecrated. I think Che is a fascinating character in history. Sure he did a lot of bad deeds, but I do believe he wanted to do it for the ultimate good he felt like he was doing. He obviously went too far, but I still find him to be such an interesting character in history. This two part will be epic in every definition of the word.

Man Bites Dog is a very dark comedy. It's a mockuantary about a seril killer. He kills without reason. Dosent care about age, sex, or race. His name is Ben. Ben is one of the most beliveable charectors in movie history. Besides being a psychopath, he a fun gut to be around. He can recite potery, loves chamber music, and likes to have a drink or two. It's shot in grainy black and whire witch gives it a creepy documantry feel. The men directing it are also in the picture to make it feel more like a documantry. It's writing is very funny. If you can handle dead people jokes, incredible gory violence, and on of the most graphic rape scenes in movie history, than this great film is for you.

This film is one of the greatest, yet unnoticed films in cinema history. I still know people who have never heard of it. It is a very sad, yet very proud part of african-american history during the civil war, that not too many people have heard of, but should. When I was in High School, I fought to have this film viewed in my american history class, simply to show people kind of how it was to see america during the civil war through a different set of eyes. As you can see, this film touched me deeply, and was one of the few films to make me truly proud of my heritage. If you haven't seen it, watch it. RATING 10/10

I'm slightly "thumbs down." First off, as a historical matter, the Marquis de Sade was a bad dude. He was a rapist, torturer, kidnapper, and child abuser. This movie, however, makes only a fleeting reference to any of that history. It instead portrays him as an eccenric old man, with a penchant for kinky sex and writing about it, and suggests that he is a sort of a sexual hero, focusing on his desire to write, and ignoring his infamous history. How would we feel about a movie that Portrayed Hitler as a kindly, eccentric painter, without acknowledging the atrocities that overshadowed his life? Second, it drags somewhat. It is 123 minutes, and is occasionally boring. On a positive note, the acting is superb. Also, the theme of artistic or social freedom is very well done.
