I am a firm believer that my mood can sometimes make or break a film for me. If I am in the mood for a comedy and I go see a drama, I may find it slower than I normally would. Or if I am in the mood for action and go to a comedy or a drama I may not find the comedy as funny and the drama as interesting. I remember Master and Commander the trailer played it up as an action film and I was really in the mood for some good action. So I went and saw it and the movie is a slow drama and I ended up not liking it. I really need to see the movie again when I am in the mood for a drama because I probably judged it unfairly because of the mood I was in. | | Static Link |

| Posted by: JollyG87 at November 28, 2003, 12:29 pm | | Topic: Reviews: Dark Blue Forum: JoBlo | | Dark Blue is a gripping cop drama that was a big surprise to me. I thought it was going to be a fair cop thriller, but what I got instead was a cop drama that had very complex characters. Kurt Russell was great in it and he made the movie a lot better. There was a scene where he was just silent for a few minutes, but he had these expressions on his face and you knew exactly what the character was thinking. Ving Rhames was fair. His character seemed kind of emotionless and was probably the least complex main character of the entire movie. I also liked how some characters changed because of something they saw or knew. It also keeps you on the edge of your seat and you never can predict what's going to happen next. The only problem Dark Blue has is the fact that most of the characters are dirty cops and you don't really care about them at all until the end. So overall it was a good cop drama that was better than Training Day even though it pretty much took its story. Dark Blue- 8/10 | | Static Link |

I thought it was a failed mish-mash of fantastical and whimsical farce and father/son drama. And it was neither funny nor touching and involving. And all of the performances were dull save for an amusing turn by Willem Dafoe. Bad movie IMO. Whereas I found The Darjeeling Limited to be a solid mix of comedy and drama with some scenes that were amusing and some that were actually quite touching. I really believed in the chemistry between the brothers. It was a very good movie. A definitely huge step up from the failed Life Aquatic. The Royal Tenenbaums is still my favorite Wes Anderson and is a PERFECT mix of comedy and drama working wonderfully as both, featuring great performances from a stellar cast (especially the wonderful Gene Hackman in a note perfect performance). Infact, it's a masterpiece. I don't think Anderson will ever make a better movie. That's how much I loved it. | | Static Link |

I too enjoyed this movie very much, it was acted very well, especially by Washington, and is a wonderful, heartwarming story for the whole family. At first I didn't really want to see it because it was rated PG, and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. But that did not matter, because despite its rating, the movie was still an emotional, serious drama with wonderful football scenes and dialogue. Besides Washington's character, my favorite character was the previous coach's daughter (who narrates the film at the beginning and end) who knows everything about football. And this movie was much better than another recent football drama, Varsity Blues (3/10). So if you haven't seen this movie, rent it today, it's a heartwarming and uplifting story that is one of my top 10, maybe even top 5, of 2000. | | Static Link |
