The Golden Globes always kill me. La Vie en Rose is a musical? Lars and the Real Girl is a comedy? Charlie Wilson's War is a comedy? (Just because a movie has some funny parts doesn't make it a comedy.) Seven Best Drama nominations... now that's a new one.

Shocked! That's all i can say. I rented this movie expecting...well expecting nothing. I was bored and needed a comedy to lighten my night. Boy did i choose a comedy.
Reese Witherspoon was likeable, the whole plot was indeed not that bad at all. Script-writing was quite funny and not dumb which is great.
This movie surprised the hell out of me. I didn't enjoy the movie immensley, but i like it so much more than i could have ever imagined. With humourus jokes about the whole Malibu look etc. it was a good light hearted comedy with your throw in of romance. Nicely done.
Not a bad movie at all, you can see how it was a surprise hit in America. 6.5/10

A slightly dramatic one, but definitely a comedy. thats why just about every site you go to that describes it, puts it in Comedy/Drama. and well, Charlie Wilson's War hasnt even come out yet, so how can we judge it already? its nice to see the love for ryan gosling and lars and the real girl, it was a spectacular movie, lots of laughs and good joy. plus, gosling played one of the most heart-warming characters of the year, and its nice to see him receiving more praise.

Wow, I was surprised by how much I loved this film. From the trailer I saw I was expecting a funny quirky Snatch type of movie. I didn't think the two films had a lot in common at all, other than I enjoyed them both. In Bruge is probably the best black comedy I've ever seen, and is probably on my top 10 movie list. I'm going to go see it again to be sure. The dialogue was hilarious, and some of the best I've seen. I know some people said this wasn't really a comedy, but I laughed more through this movie then any actual comedy I've seen in a long long time. It is a character study kind of movie, slower than snatch but in my opinion it is the better movie. Don't expect tons of gunfights or anything, but you can expect some hilarious lines and the best part I've seen Colin Farell in yet. 9.5/10

I mean, the talking to the audience, the one bad guy who gets his comeuppance only for the other one to look for the remote and rewind it. It all seemed almost like a sendup of the genre. Director's intention with the movie aside, I found the movie to be a VERY bleakly funny ultra dark black comedy. there is an eliment of comedy but over all its not, no.

I'm not a "Comedy" guy. I think that this movie was tremendously funny, but I'm now 11 years out of high school, and find it all so ridiculous that this actually worked for me quite well. Don't get me wrong, this film is the lowest common denominator in terms of comedy. It has a lot of scatological humor, some fairly demeaning female stereotypes and some really good laughs. It's not Shakespeare, but it will be a purchase for my DVD collection. And the only other comedy besides "Scary Movie" and "The Emperor's New Groove."

I'm definately not one to write extended reviews of movies so this will follow the same structure I normally use...breif and to the point. I approached this movie the way I think all should, not expecting South Park but the comedy stylings of Parker and Stone. I pretty much laughed all they way through and came out of the theatre singing those hilarious songs (in my head ofourse). There were definately points in the movie where the comedy started to level out but just as it did you were hit hard with something undone and hilarious. Don't look to deep into this movie. If your having concerns with the political approach of the movie then you probaly shouldn't be watching it. It's a comedy...laugh! Not once did I feel uncomfortable in our theatres crappy seats which tells me the movie was worth going to see in its own right. Yes, good times were had by all.

What a disappointment this movie was. I expected a funny comedy because the trailers were funny. But with exception of a couple of smiles and chuckles not even the scenes in the trailer were funny in the movie. Just a really dull and unfunny movie. Most disappointing comedy I've seen since Mars Attacks! ** (out of ****) 4.5 out of 10 Grade: C-

Definitely, Maybe - 8/10 Enjoyable...for a romantic comedy (my most hated movie genre, if you didn't know). I could tell you the whole sordid tale of 'Why in the Hell did I even Pay to See a Romantic Comedy?!', but I don't want to bore you - it's just too painful. Surprisingly, the movie wasn't, though.

Knocked Up - *** Not great but pretty good comedy. I slightly prefer The 40 Year Old Virgin even though this movie has a few things I liked more. The chemistry between the four leads are especially great. Still, the movie is a little overlong and could have used some trimming. But overall it's a satisfying little comedy.

It isn't an assumption, the studio blurb said they were aiming for a "Mask-style" comedy. Obviously they don't really care if Green Lantern fans show up or not, as they can just market it as Generic Wacky Comedy No. #395. --------------------- "Nothing jazzes up a superhero movie like depressing scenes of an old woman trying to make her mortgage payments" - Jimmy Kimmel

Am i the only person who thought this movie was good. It was halirious especially the toilet scene and the wedding. Although after the wedding it went a little bit downhill it still delivers the comedy moments for example the peircing and the outtakes when the credits are rolling. The only bit i think that spoils this movie is the dancing about in the cafe because that would just never happen and the movie mantage scene with the chessy music which by the way i hate. But overrall it was a great movie 9/10 and i would recommened it to any comedy fans.

This movie (like Evoloution) will hold a special place in my heart. Why? Because it was pure fun. I loved the dialoge and the "Steve Zahn" look alike cracked me up. In a movie like this the plot and story line comes last and the anticts and comedy come first, and this is one movie you can tell the comedy is far ahead of the story. The only beef I have is the mid section of the movie seemed to drag and the chuckles are few and far between....other than that....and good enjoyable time at the movies. 2 1/2 out of 4

I watched some of the archives from back in the day and siskel was just the man. He ranked a movie... not by if it was an award contender... but if it was an entertaining movie. If it was an action movie... he ranked it as an action movie. If it was a comedy... he ranked it as a comedy... he didn't use a single bar to rate every movie like all of em do today. RIP That said I think Roeper is good... hes no siskel... but I like him.

Comedy is definitely very difficult. Even for those rare comedies that are original and of genuinely high quality, it's not hard to fall flat in places. And plus, more generally, comedy is far more subjective than drama. Like Bubba said, everybody can understand someone dying, but comedy usually varies from person to person.

i`m not sure i want to call it an intelligent comedy but overall i agree the film is good! courtroom comedy usually works fairly well if it`s done correctly! and MCV is a good example of the correct way to do it! now did marisa tomei deserve the award? honestly i`m not sure? this was the only film i saw from 1992 that had a supporting role nomination. the others were- Enchanted April - Joan Plowright Fatale - Miranda Richardson Howards End - Vanessa Redgrave Husbands and Wives - Judy Davis but overall- i think the film is good and it`s probabaly a classic comedy. i would recommend the movie to anyone that`s looking for a good story mixed with good comedy. this is a RARE combination but MCV pulls it off rather well! the acting is quit good in this movie all of the cast members do a solid job. and the story isn`t corny like most storys are in comedys. this is what i would call a "down to earth" comedy. it doesn`t try to hard to make you laugh their aren`t any stupid one liners in the film it just mak...

I can't think of a better romantic comedy. This one was a terrific film, but not 10/10 for me. Sure I've only seen it once and that was a long time ago, but this wasn't what you or Joblo made it out to be. I can't decide on wheter it would be an 8 or a 9/10 because something that one should always take to thought is the age factor. Does it age well? Apparently it ages magnificently for you, maybe that'll happen with me. But the thing I liked about this movie is that it's not the normal stupid romantic comedy that has the people saying these moronic prophetic things that are supposed to be romantic. This movie is much much more original which is something that I really enjoyed in the movie.
