******INCLUDES MINOR SPOILERS****** I saw this when it first came out on video. The cinematography was FANTASTIC, unfortunately, the movie wasn't. It really went down the shitter when he started going crazy, the movie just got plain stupid then. I wanted to see an exotic adventure movie with great cinematography, but THE BEACH didn't take advantage of the great location. Not terrible, but terribly disappointing. Hopefully someday a great looking island adventure movie will be made, but THE BEACH isn't it. Grade: 5/10 or C-

RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ADVENTURE MOVIES OF ALL TIME!! This movie has everything. Romance, Comedy,Drama and Adventure. Harrison plays Indiana Jones, a archeologist who is hired by the US government to find the Ark of the Covenant. But Nazi forces also want the lost Ark, so it is a race to see who will reach the Ark first. Along with Indiana is Marion Ravenwood, played by Karen Allen. I love this movie and everyones performances were perfect. I never get tired of watching this movie. 10/10

Fantastic movie and the second best after Raiders. I also didn't mind Willie and thought that Short-Round was a great sidekick (notice how they show the influence Indy has/had on children through this relationship?). Also the ensemble performance is better than in any other Indy movie. My only complaint was the mix of the cheesy comedy and adventure with the dark themes of religious sacrifice and child abuse/slavery - not really sure what Steve was going for but still, a great adventure movie with a number of unforgetable scenes (the meal with the Maharajah, the cart sequence and the really tense final scene at the bridge). 8/10

Okay so we are not talking Lawrence of Arabia here but Blade 2 is was it is. Its a put your brain on hold eye candy adventure flick and as that it suceeds very well. I personally thought it was better than the first Blade movie. A movie like this needs a good villian just as much as it needs a good hero. The first Blade movie did not in my opinion have a very kick ass bad guy for Blade to go up against and it suffered because of it. No problems with that here. The Reapers are plenty bad. I also thought it had a better basic plot than the first movie. Problems? Yeah, a few. There were some things left unexplained by the storyline and some of the CGI during a few fight sequences looked a little cartoonish but I didn't let it bug me too much. Like I said this is a action/adventure escapism flick and should not be over analized. I give it 6.5/10.

I think the main reason why people say he's treading ground is because of Life Aquatic. It was advertised as an adventure thing, had all these adventure qualities to it, but it was more like a traditional Wes Anderson comedy/drama in a weird setting. His other movies feel like they're the only thing they could possibly be. While I enjoyed The Life Aquatic immensely, I felt that he could have also done something different, added a little bit more action, made it a little more fantastic. He had the claymation creatures, for example, but they hardly figured in the movie. He had a lot of cool gadgets in the ship, but they hardly figured. In a way it felt like Wes Anderson was afraid of doing a straight-up action/adventure film. I mean, it seems silly to spend that insane budget to have all those things as mere backdrop and have relatively weak action (the ship scene, the island scene, the somewhat anticlimactic shark discovery). He even admitted that even though the movie came out to be what he wanted, he regret...

It was all style and not a lick of substance. The film was all over the place in my opinion and it was very annoying. I remember giving it a D+. Even Tilda Swinton couldn't save this piece of driftwood.

People keep saying swashbuckling adventure. i would love to know where that is. All the swashbuckling adventure basically boiled to car chases of various kinds and the only one that was remotely interesting was the motorcycle one maybe because that was actually clever. The more I think about the warehouse chase and the jungle chase the more forgettable they become.

It started out rather "meh"...then it got really good...and then it just got pathetic. In extra half hour of interaction between the two leads would have actually made the love story work. By the end, there was absolutely no believeability or logic behind their love, and it brought the film down. I wasn't truly invovled with any of the characters emotionally. I didn't care when any character died. But on the flipside, I really did like the fact that this wasn't a forumulaic, run-of-the-mill Civil War story. I also liked that it focused in on individual characters. And I liked the flashback structuring and how the film progressed in an "adventure, next adventure, next adventure" kinda way. I also really, really, really enjoyed the performances, especially those from Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Rene Zellweger, who both participate in a really ecclectic ensemble cast full of interesting (yet emotionally boring) characters. I also think the movie successfully shows the depressing, harsh reali...

A little too much CGI for my tastes. However, I tried to look at this movie as an entertaining, brainless monsterfest, but in the end, I saw it was a brainless, boring shitfest. The movie had good potential; all the Universal monsters and a wanted murderer who kills the monsters, but the history of these characters never went anywhere. Who was Van Helsing and why was he doing what he did (maybe I missed that when I fell asleep)? The action scenes were okay, nothing special. The performances were very weak, and this is coming from a guy who enjoyed Hugh Jackman in X2, and Kate Beckinsale in, well, she's just sexy. The dialogue was horrible (yes I know, it's an adventure film, but I don't care), and in the end, the movie was all too cheesy. I've never cared for Stephen Sommers, probably never will. In conclusion, if you're into adventure/action/monster movies, this maybe your thing. I like horror movies, but I wouldn't consider this horror. It just wasn't my kind of movie and to my disbelief, didn't keep me en...

This movie really moved me like no other movie in 1998. I too had to watch it twice to see the true surface of the film and where it's coming from. Scarlett Johansson is a brilliant actress, she deserved an Oscar! The whole look and feel of the movie was one like an old escapist adventure with a dramatic touch - this movie was really great. THE HORSE WHISPERER - 9/10
