I keep a mental list of my favorite top 10 films of all time. And damned if "Magnolia" isn't number one. I gotta tell ya, the first time I saw it I hated it. The frogs? The girl smiling? What was all that about? And yet as I went on with my days, certain scenes and images haunted me. So I thought I would see it again. I can't really explain why it affected me so much. I guess there is a time in everyone's life when you feel exactly like each of the characters. How many here have never felt the effects of love like Quiz Kid Donnie Smith? Or the frustrated wrath of Linda Partridge? Like an article in Rolling Stone put it "Magnolia is a movie for those who lay on their bedroom floor crying praying that the love of their life will walk in the door and save them." Okay, that was a tad bit melodramatic. But isn't "Magnolia"? Oh, and can I just give kudos to the brilliant Jon Brion score? It never leaves my CD player, and is tied with the "Requiem For A Dream' soundtrack as my favorite score to listen to. And in case you haven't noticed by now, my user name is the Philip Seymour Hoffman character. He's my favorite actor working today. Talk about range! Sorry I wrote so much, but I'm on a caffeine buzz. Ciao!
