He had a huge hit with BOOGIE NIGHTS and had the clout and respect to make the kind of movie he wanted, with little or not interference. That's the kind of filmmaker we need these days. One who goes from making BOOGIE to a highly personal and introspective film instead of a big-budget popcorn blockbuster piece of shit. But, sometimes you write things, draw things or film things that no one else would or should see. I don't blame him for not cutting the movie (why should he if no one is pressuring him??) to placate the movie-going public, but in the end, I feel (and this is just one man's opinion) that prevented the message from getting across. This is a good movie and possibly a great movie, but as a guy sitting in a theater watching this movie, I just didn't enjoy it. |
