I give Magnolia a 10/10. This movie was just absolutely beautiful. They way the characters showed their emotions, they just felt so real. The group singing of Wise Up (please, someone tell me who sings this song) was so touching and downright beautiful. I almost broke down in tears.
And when Frank T.J. Mackey was trying to keep himself together while talking to his dying father Earl, that has to be, in my point of view, one of the greatest moments in acting I have ever seen. I actually felt Frank's pain that had been built up inside him, and with most recent films, I haven't felt anything for anyone. I noticed a little 'subliminal message' during the film, which im sure lots of other viewers noticed also. When they pan the crowd at the 'What Do Kids Know' show, a guy sitting in an aisle seat holds up a sign that says "Exodus 8:2", and abruptly gets the sign taken away by a security guard. Now that I know what Exodus 8:2 says, I understand why he held up the sign.
The raining of the frogs, was confusing, but it was also the key point in the film. Donny got hit in the face by a falling frog and didnt even say anything about it. For something that weird to happen, on probably the worst day of your life, and not care a thing about it is very, very touching. There were a few things that made me made in this film, like with almost every film, but it was still a perfect film.
Some of the things that made me mad were: Stanleys father not apologizing to him, Claudia leaving Jim in the restaurant, the little black boy robbing Linda and shooting at Jim with Jim's own gun and making him look like a fool, the death of the dog (which by the way, how did that happen? did frank do it?) and not knowing what happened with the end of the game show. And who the hell was sitting on Claudia's bed at the end that made her smile?
Ahhh forget it, this was a great film, which I love, and has entered my top ten of all time list. I hope PTA makes more films like this, im looking forward to them. |
