Topic: MAGNOLIA (May 28 - June 3) Forum: JoBlo

Funny how both movies 'Taxi Driver' and now 'Magnolia' are in my top ten movies of all time and are the movies discussed. If i were to say everything i think of Magnolia and what everything means i would be typing until tomorrow. So i'll just say the important stuff. Magnolia - a movie that strictly relies on its characters. This movie talks about a lot of things and has numerous themes and the one which you people failed to mention was the influence of t.v. These people are actually linked by the t.v. Earl Partridge is the producer of the show which Jimmy Gator is the host of. And these are the two central characters. Regret, forgiveness, the past, all these are themes. This movie is really like a mosaic. So many rich characters and how they all relate to each other which is show by the song Wise Up which they all mouth. I mean this movie is HUGE and it blew me away from the first time i saw it. It has the perfect ending - the frogs. The frogs in my opinion are there to show that after such a day of remorse, dredging up the past, regretting etc. falling frogs shouldnt be surprising at all. In fact after such a day falling frogs is quite reasnable and they make you think twice about what you just saw. Also the frogs are there to finish up the mosaic - they bring together Rose and Claudia Gator - they make sure Jimmy suffers by burning - they create a tense atmosphere for Jim and Donnie which makes them think twice and they make Stanley realise it was all his fathers fault. The finale is beautiful. Claudia smiles. There is hope. If Claudia has a reason to smile then anyone has. For people who still dont 'get' Magnolia go to the P.T. Anderson page 'Coffee & Cigarettes' and there is an essay on Magnolia.
Everything is perfect in this film. 10/10 .. if only there was a higher way to show my appreciation for this film.
