| Great Quotes Man, that one where Burt has his hat pulled down low and he's laying in the hammock is great, you know, the "bum" one. Hey bra, I just tell it like it is, in fact I thought I'd probably get reamed for this one, but I really believe that "Smokey and the Bandit" is as important to circa-1970's cinema as films like "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest", "Taxi Driver", "Deliverance", etc... I don't mean that it's as phenomenal as those films in the acting department, but it is certainly a true film "classic". It made Burt Reynolds career at the time, and is about one of the funnest and most entertaining films I have ever seen. Sure the times have changed and it has lots of racial and sexual slurs in it, but if "Blazing Saddles" is a classic film, which I think it is, than "Smokey" is right there with it. I mean, Burt Reynolds was just as cool as Paul Newman, Robert Redford, Jon Voight or John Travolta those days (not quite as cool as Steve McQueen... but pretty darn close) and "Smokey and the Bandit" made him a 70's cultural icon, I mean, just check out the ultra-cool opening credits to "Detroit Rock City". LONG LIVE THE BANDIT! |
