Mike will see it if he wants to and that's that. While others are plugging their site I might as well plug mine www.currentlyplaying.com where I actually EXPLAIN why I like or dislike movies. My review of Clockstoppers can be found there along with many others. In fact, I'll just post my thoughts below: Clockstoppers: A teenager (Jesse Bradford) steals a special a watch from his scientist father that stops time except for the wearer who's able to move at normal speed. He then, along with his girlfriend (Paula Garces) has to avoid various evil people who want the watch back. The power to stop time would be something that I think most everyone would like to do one time or another in their life. If one had this power they could figure their way out of a terrible situation that they find themselves in, or savor memorable moments for as long as possible. I mean, wouldn't you want to stay in a time of your life that you found to be the best time of your life? Such fabled power is the premise around which the Nickelodeon film Clockstoppers is built. While the premise is certainly titillating the execution is far from original or enthralling. First off, the script by Rob Hedden (Various TV movies, Friday the 13th Part 8:Jason Takes Manhattan) is cliché-filled to the brim with the standard teen problems of wanting a car, parental arguments, etc. The script also fails to fully realize its characters. As such, Bradfrord and Garces' characters come across as very blasé. Another problem with the script is how it seems to want to get from one situation to another without resolving the original situation first. The mediocre acting doesn't help the film any either. Bradford is very stilted in his delivery and at times, he comes across as very annoyingly whiny. Garces displays much more charisma as Bradford's attractive new girlfriend. French Stewart also shows up in the film as another scientist. He's limited to a very minor supporting role and as a result, doesn't make much of an impression on the viewer. The rest of the supporting cast is very average in their performances also. As the lead villain, Michael Biehn is one-dimensional while Julia Sweeney and Robin Thomas don't get much to do as Bradford's work-absorbed parents. Jonathan Frakes direction is full of frenetic camera whooshes (tricks) and fancy special effects but he doesn't manage to evoke the sense of wonder that the film really needs. Maybe that's because the special effects aren't as neat as they could have been. Instead, they are very artificial looking and fail to impress the viewer. Overall, Clockstoppers is a mediocre film that's one strictly for the kids because more sophisticated viewers will tire of the juvenile shenanigans quickly. 65 out of 100.
