I just watched this last night... It was a desperate time. TV sucks, the missus was at a class - I needed a flick to get me through the evening. The video store shelf was chock-a-block full of shite I'd already seen, the pickings were slim. Of the DVD's available that I'd not seen: 2 Freddie "the schmuck I am" Prinze Jr. movies, that Jet Li debacle and LOSER. I went with LOSER not knowing at all what my man JoBlo thought of it... Being from Toronto, I was pleasently surprised to see that the bulk of LOSER was filmed here (Wait a second, Mena Suvari was a good 3-Iron shot away from my apartment when filming this?!?! What the hell was I doing!!!). It was cool seeing Enbridge Gas guy from the TV commercials in the crowd at the Everclear concert - local talent all over this movie. Anyway, I completely agree with Raena's assessment of the film - no matter what the director says - it was everybody besides Biggs & Suvari that were the losers. All in all the movie was stereotypical and blase. The plot was so trite I felt shame for the folks who green-lighted the project. Some of the tunes were cool, but they didn't really seem to fit. It was as though the producers knew the movie was going to be a flop, so they tried dressing it up with some decent pop tunes... I give LOSER 3.5/10. 1 for the Toronto scenery, 1 for Jason Biggs, 1 for Mena Suvari, and .5 for the tunes...
