Not Another Teen Movie - 7/10 Good. Not great, but you must consider it is hard to top these guys' first project, Scary Movie. I watched this one immediately after taking a walk down memory lane with our favorite ol' horror parody. Being worn out on the old jokes, I can say I was quite satisfied with the cast and the jokes. The opening scene (like in SM) was a perfect way to relax and dull the brain into a numbing, non-intellectual state. I was actually a little scared that I wouldn't have any idea which movies this was parody-ing... but I actually caught several of them. A lot of American Pie bashing was here (a plus) ... replacing Jason Biggs with the nerdy girl, who also connects as the lead in 10 things I hate about you (a movie I dispised). Plus a bonus of Cruel Intentions, Bring It On, and She's All That were tossed in like a salad dressing. Even though I did like American Pie and Cruel Intentions, I got a kick out of the way the movie mocks these other lame, cheezy teen movies out there. Replacing whiny "someone please help me get through puberty" drama with a really gross bathroom-peeping sequence, a football player getting ripped in half on the final touchdown, really obvious character re-makes, dumbass parenting, and T&A galore was just what I was looking for. Another thing to praise is how unlike SM2 tossed a bunch of random re-makes that neither fit the theme nor connected in any way, this movie does a BRILLIANT job in connecting the movie themes together (as did the first SM). Actually, if anything, this was another teen movie, but one with fun to go with it, rather than your typical dramatic sleeping pill. I really had a good time with it. However, with all the respect I give the movie, it still doesn't measure up to the producers' freshman project. Don't get me wrong, most of it was incredibly funny, but there were a few instances when rather than laughing I just nodded my head, whereas SM was a non-stop riot. Overall, it's worth at least a video rental (hey, that's all there is now, I waited too late, hehe) -- if you enjoy taking a mental vacation for an hour and a half, this could be your one-way ticket to a good time.
