I seem to be in the minority here, but I think that Femme Fatale is a smart, sophisticated, and ultimately excellent, underrated thriller gem. Much like critic Roger Ebert, who gave this film **** (his highest rating), mind you, I was swept up in the world of style, seduction, and mind games. The attention to detail in this film is impeccable. I have watched this twice in the past two days already, and my second viewing was completely different from my first. I was able to notice more things, and make more sense of all of the plot complications. But this isn't only about style - oh no. On the surface, it is essentially a trashy thriller, yes, but on its mutiple, deeper levels it is a film about second chances, and the ability to do things over differently - given the chance. Our heroine (if you will) starts off by pulling a diamond heist, which in itself is one of the year's (2002) best, and most original scenes, and in the end, redeems herself from the horrible life that could have come upon her. Horrible you say? Well it really depends what perspective you are looking from, but in the end, I must say so. So I bid you my due for now, and say that this is obviously the type of film that you either get, or don't get, and I guess I just got it. Brian "the american hitchcock" De Palma's script & direction are both superbly well done, as is his selection of music. This is a film that I will keep watching for years to come. 8/10 (#9 On My 2002 Top Ten List) P.S.: There are also the obvious things, such as the "hotness" of Rebecce Romaijn Stamos, and the coolness of Antonio Banderas, but are those things really worth mentioning, or are they just too blatantaly obvious? I'll go with the second choice. And then, the two black french criminals, who are chasing after Rebecca? - Very, Very Cool. -Sleek-
