This film is truly scary! I enjoy movies about things that go "bump in the night", and I was pretty impressed with this one. The atmosphere and setting fit the story perfectly. Where better to comprehend a good ghost story than a huge creepy mansion!? Compliments go to the lucidity of the plot and the surprising end. (Even though I read other reviews here about how close the end it was to The Sixth Sense, I wasn't disappointed, I was still unexpectedly surprised.) The elements such as footsteps upstairs, creaking floors, doors slamming, whisperings, etc. were a bit cliche for frightening you but this is a ghost movie, and I must say it did well on that part. To me, this is a one-time film only... meaning you see it a second time and you won't be as frightened because you'll already know what happens and how it ends. (just like most horror films) But I think I'll get the DVD to show my friends who haven't seen it yet. They're in for a surprise! I give this one a 8/10. Nicole Kidman is quite attractive, by the way! I had to include that. [This message has been edited by paperboy (edited 04-25-2002).]
