Trapped Directed By: Alex Mandoki Starring: Charlize Theron, Kevin Bacon, Stuart Townsend Rating: R for languae, violence and sexual content The movie begins with Karen Jennings[Charlize Theron]. Her husband Will[Stuart Townsend] is now out of town for a business meeting. So she is left alone with her young daughter Abby[Dakota Fanning] until he gets home. But soon Abby is kidnapped by a cunning man named Joe[Kevin Bacon]. Now Karen must follow all of Joe's rules and demands for the next 24 hours, that is , if she wants to see her daughter again. The performances all shine. Charlize Theron gives one of her best performances, proving she's got more than a killer body and a pretty face. She makes us feel for her character and we root for her in the end. Kevin Bacon is also great as the kidnapper Joe, who's more untrustwrothy than he looks. As with Jack Nicholson did in "The Shining", sometimes his facial expressions do all the acting. Dakota Fanning[the girl from "I Am Sam"] also does a great job, proving that she is definitely a promising child star. Stuart Townsend, Pruitt Taylor Vince and Courtney Love round out the supporting cast. In a current time where child disapperances, murders, and kidnappings seem to happen at an abnormal and rapid speed, this movie was quite controversial. Word is that it wasn't even screened for alot of critics in its release. Small word of mouth aside, the movie holds up a tight-paced script. The characters are well-developed throughout and the suspense of each event unfolds. There are only 3 porblems I had with the movie:[POSSIBLE SPOILERS***]1. Why start the situation 5 minutes into the film? That kind of left me puzzled because we have no development of Karen and Abby's relationship and little interaction between them, although it doesn't take a brainchild to figure out she's be worried about her missing kid. 2. What was the point of the near sexual encounter between Theron and Bacon where he corners her into having sex with him? I loved seeing Ms. Theron half-naked as most straight men did, but I felt it was just added for an extra moment of Hollywood sleaze by the writer, which feels kinda cheap to me 3. I was kind of disappointed by the film's ending. It wasn't really that fullfilling story wise and it was a little too typical Hollywood thriller for me. Those 3 quibbles aside, it was a majorly solid thriller, and while it may not be a box office winner, it was still a good moive. What guy could resist seeing Charlize Theron in her *black* underwear? 8.5/10
