| Dead Alive is well worth the time of anyone interested in the B-movie genre of gore films. It is gory, violent, over the top, and surprisingly, somewhat witty. The film does move a little slow and that is worth mentioning because even though this is one of the goriest films ever made (at least it's the goriest film I've ever seen), the gore comes and goes sporadically until the last 25 minutes or so of the film. Don't expect a non stop gore ride, but there's plenty in there to keep you interested. In my opinion the Kung Fu priest has a couple of the best lines in the film and is my favorite character. This film has a GREAT sense of humor. It's a b-movie and it never tries to be anything more. I have no problem recommending this movie as long as you can stomach it! While all the gore is over the top and ridiculous, it's still a gross movie, so tread carefully. My only complaint about this film is the ending. I won't give it away, but the movie goes from being a zombie film to a film that has an oversized, completely nonsensical supervillian and in my opinion hurts the overall quality of the film. As it stands, I will rate this movie an: 8/10 If the ending was different I would have given it a 9/10 but even so, all the madness before the ending makes this movie worth a watch, even a purchase. JUST BE SURE YOU SEE THE UNRATED VERSION! Don't settle for the R-rated version, you will miss out on a lot! |
