Director: Guillermo Del Toro Producers: Wesley Snipes, Peter Frankfurt, Victor McGauley Writers: Guillermo Del Toro, David S Goyer Distributor: New Line Plot: A new blood virus is being transmitted on the streets that turns humans and vampires alike into monsters called reapers, who feed on vampires and humans alike, which leads vampire hunter Blade to form an unlikely alliance with a top group of vampires called the Bloodpack. The vampire hyrbrids- reapers- are the most dangerous beasts the planet has ever known. Rescuing his old friend, Whistler, from vampirism, along with a new machinist sidekick named Scud, the daywalker must eliminate the mutant vampire scum. Review: Blade returns in this sequel which is very intense, most people either like it or not, so its a hit or miss. I liked Blade II I just thought the original was better, but the second installment is loaded with more action and special effects. I didn't like how cgi looked in a couple parts though, cgi in the first one was much better because everything wasn't constantly moving superfast imo. Snipes (Blade) appears a little smaller physically in this movie compared to the original, he lost weight for his martial arts ability- so he can move faster. The beginning of the film has Nomak going underground to some secret security place, that is when the viewer gets their first taste of the hybrid vampire race called reapers. Nomak (a head reaper) goes nuts and kills about 5 people in a chamber, and the beginning credits start to roll basically retelling what events occured leading up to first movie. Shortly Blade gets an invitation from a vampire network to join forces with him because there is a new threat on the streets, twice as worse as vampires: the reapers have a bigger need for blood and are much more deadly. Supposedly an elite vampire team (the Bloodpack) was formed 2 years ago and was training since to work with Blade, it does sound a bit farfetched... Blade makes a total fool out of the team leader- Reinhardt and finally decides to join the team only to prevent the reapers from regenerating and causing even more chaos. Eventually the team turns on the daywalker and it was all a huge plot from the start by a vampire nation to capture Blade and finish him off for good. It won't be that easy though, the daywalker breaks out of the "death bed" and its up to him again before the world is turned into a complete disaster. Blade falls into a pool of blood (quenches his thirst), Reinhardt is sliced in half, and Nomak becomes just another dead reaper. All in all, this sequel is really good and it has more of a sci-fi element that the original lacked. I recommend this film if you just feel like pure entertainment. Overall rating: 7/10 |
