But there's always the rare few that make it. X-Men United is that kind of movie. This movie follows more closely to the comic book than the first one did. The characters in the movie were more identical to their comic personas. Not to mention there were a lot more mutants in this one than in the first which makes for an excellent summer movie. Not too much where you got confused, but enough so that you were satisfied. Plus there's plenty of time to do it in the sequels. I also think it was smart of Singer to just focus on Wolverine's past since he is the most popular out of all the X-Men. And people wanna see more of him. I did anyways. I think he did more research on the comic book when he directed X-Men2 since he got Wolverine's attitude down pat. In the first one he wasn't as tough or crazy as in the second one. he actually kills people in this one!! Which is exactly what he does in the comic. Yet at the same time he's extremely caring to his fellow teammates which the movie showed as well. You fuck with his friends; and you're not gonna be alive long enough to talk about it. I also like the story. That is the biggest problem of the X-Men, trying to get humanity to accept them. The storyline is mainly taken from Chris Claremont's graphic novel; God Loves, Man Kills. Which is a great read. And the villain is none other than Stryker. Also seeing Halle Barry, Rebecca Romijn, Femke Janssen and Kelly Hu in one movie is sheer heaven. I'm just glad Halle lost her accent from the first one. Iceman and Pyro, the two new young additions to the team were great also. I just wanted to see Iceman do more crazy things with his powers. The beginning sequence was one to remember. Just one word will sum it up. Nightcrawler, nuff said. And Colossus' cameo was great. I wish he did more, but it was a good tease. I'm sure we'll see him more in future X-Men movies. This and Matrix Reloaded are by far the best the summer blockbusters has to offer. So if you haven't seen X2 get your ass in gear and go see it. I give this movie a 9/10 just because it lived up to its hype, and it was able to entertain from the beginning right to the end. One of the best comic to movie adaptations ever. |
