Normally I'm not a comic-book movie type of guy and went into the cinema with my expectations low and came out very pleased indeed. The effects were impressive, the acting top notch, the screenplay (for once in a comic book movie) wasn't pure cheese and there was enough eye candy on screen that kept me smiling (Halle, Famke, Anna, Rebecca...Oh my *drools*). Having said that, there were a few things that kept it from being a classic in the sequels rank: James Marsden (Cyclops) came and went rather quickly, Brian Cox's 'boo-hiss' baddie was pure ham and Jean Grey's fate wasn't explained too well (SPOILERS Did she die? Or simply morph into this Phoenix person I've been hearing about? I dont know what to believe...) but this was a sequel that stood up to its original, a masterpiece in the action genre. 8/10 or a generous 9/10. |
