Unfortunately, the rest of the movie doesn't *quite* live up to the beginning (although the Phoenix reference at the end just about made my entire year....as an X-Men geek, I can only say thank you!). The best part of this film can be summed up in 2 little words: Hugh Jackman. This guy IS Wolverine....just picturing Dougray Scott as Wolvie makes me ill. How they manage to make Wolvie, with his horrid mutton chops and ever-present cigar, attractive and the very essence of cool is just amazing. Kudos. OK, so the other best part of this film is Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler...although I have to say I prefer the light-hearted, funny Nightcrawler of the comic book realm, this one was pretty damn good, and the Nightcrawler FX were certainly impressive. And to whom it may concern: thank you, thank you, thank you for making Storm lose that completely lame accent. It wasn't working. While I'm at it, let me request the appearance of Gambit in the next one, OK? Rogue and Iceman...it's not working for me. One question I have to ask: is it just me, or is it equally incomprehensible to others why Jean would pick the eternally good-boy pansy Cyclops over Wolverine? I have never, ever understood this....true, girls tend to go for the "good guys" and mess around with "bad boys," but in this case Cyclops is really just a whiny mealy-mouth loser. No way are girls gonna pick him over Wolverine (especially when he looks as good as Hugh Jackman). |
