Sorry i have to disagree with you on this film. I wanted to love this movie. I read the book and it remains one of my favorite books of all time. It seems like they really wanted to capture the kind of dreamy surreal quality of the book with a nightmarish edge but sadly they failed for the most part. Leonardo seemed completely miscast (why ddint they stay with the British character from the book) and Sal came off as completely flat. The romance between Richard and the French girl seemed to be akward and uneven in the story. in the book the two never made love leaving some sexual tension. Here the things comes off as flat and confusing. Many times they seemed to want to try really hard (notice the video-game transiton sequence) to etablish the themes of surrealism and invasion of the Western World on other cultures. While the movie did retain many of the cynical qualities of the book nothing really jelled. The ending was incredibly boring and anti-climatic. To think it was leading all up to that. I really hated this film. 2/10
