| One Hour Photo I guess I'm in the minority because I was dissapointed in One Hour Photo. To me, it lacked depth and substance, the most important thing a film like this should have. Everything was on the outside. Unlike Taxi Driver or The Conversation we never understood the main character or his motivations. It felt empty and I was left with a bad taste in my mouth. Williams acting was pretty good, maybe worthy of a oscar nom, but I wasn't blown away by his performance at all. The family was terribly underwritten and, at times, it showed because the actors were searching for something in their work, but there wasn't anything there to help them. Romancek's direction, at times, was great. It was standing on a thin line between going artsy hell and really showing me something impressive. The hotel scene contained some brillant direction. The cinematography and score were very effective and set a proper mood throughout. Overall, a dissapointing film that could have been great, but lacked any depth to pull me in and a well written script that made me care. If you want to see Williams go to the dark side and some great direction go see One Hour Photo. I, however, was dissapointed... 7/10 |
