(X-Men2, T3 Rise of the Machines, Matrix Reloaded) I haven't seen Tomb Raider yet, but I hear it's not that great, but still better than the original. Bad Boys 2 is no exception. This movie was entertaining and funny as hell. Martin Laurence and Will Smith fire it up again, with great action sequences a la John Woo/Wachowski Brothers, humorous moments at every turn, and lot of hot babes to fill in the blanks. Bad Boys 2 I thought was better than the original just because it kept me at my attention even when the movie is 2 hours and a half. Plot: Mike Lowry (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Laurence) return as the two narcotics detectives who are trying to track down a Cuban drug lord who is smuggling X into Miami while at the same time trying to launder all his money out of the city. I must admit the plot to this movie is kind of tame, and not very creative. But with the chemistry of Will and Martin this movie will grab you with it's action, comedy and violence that it won't let you go till the end. Martin Laurence was the more goofy and comical out of the two, as he was in the first one. No real change in his character except that now he's in therapy trying to control his temper and inner rage, you can guess how funny it is once he locks horns with Will Smith. Martin was hilarious, he practically stole every scene in the film with his one liners and his dirty jokes. Which is surprising since his last like 3 movies were just as entertaining as watching flies on shit. But he still has the comedic wit, but lacks the gift of choosing good movies. I guess this is his safe picture. Good job in this movie, Martin. Will Smith still plays the rich, cool, suave, and macho police officer. Except in this one he's finally settled down with a girlfriend who is Marcus' younger sister played by Gabrielle Union (Bring It On). Will Smith had his moments in this movie. But his humor was more reserved and not as off the top as Martin's. But their humor was mixed in well together. There was a good balance between them. But Will's character is a James Bond kind of character. Drives the nice cars (Ferrari in this one), sports the designer clothing and gets all the girls. The kind of character where every guy would like to be, and Will pulls it off with style. The acting was pretty basic, and not really anything that will send you into tears or change your views on life or influence you in any way. Unless you want to wreak havok on the streets or try to get your hot therapist to give you head, or maybe down two pills of X. (You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it) This is an explosive action movie, plain and simple. It delivers it in spades, and if that's what you're looking for then go see it. Plus Michael Bay decided to add mucho gore into this one as well giving it an 18A rating. Some very gruesome yet hilarious scenes. Given that this movie is 2 1/2 hours long I'm sure Michael Bay could have cut it down to 2 maybe even 1 1/2. But I guess Bay really likes to drag movies on when it doesn't need to be. Just look at Pearl Harbor. And also the movie had so many cuts in-between scenes that you kind of lose track on what's going on and who is who. After all is said and done I give this cool sequel of a movie 8/10 |
