Not really a MASTERPIECE because that would mean that AMERICAN PSYCHO is perfect in its' current form, which would be CINEMA, but I heard that the book is much better than the movie so to each his own. I got the satire and what it was trying to say. The performance by Bale was sick (a good thing), but the movie just isn't appealing. Yeah it's great that it's pointing out all the bullshit of the eighties, but so what? Does that mean its' just the greatest thing ever? Just watch Miami Vice or Dynasty if you want to see how over the top the 80's was. Also, the direction wasn't that great and the performances by everyone else were just mediocre. I don't plan on seeing this movie ever again because it simply wasn't that entertaining. The subject matter isn't appealing and very rich like the subject matter of other movies. I'm really dissappointed that I wasted the time to watch this movie because even though I understood what it was trying to say, it was telling me something I already knew and didn't really care about anyway. The whole movie is pretty pretentious which kind of ties in with what it is presenting. 3/10 |
