Well after 'thinking' about it I realised that this movie was for Spice Girls fans and Spice Girls fans only. I mean, what did you expect from a movie starring the Spice Girls? This is obviously just a bad excuse for showing the cute girls. And you know what? It works. The camera loves the girls, the movie looks great, lots of colour all arround and lots of stupid fun also, this movie is not boring at all. I can't actually say that I had a blast watching it, because I didn't, but the point of the movie was just to show the girls doing their things and looking great, so what else can you ask for? The movie has it all! I was surprised with the amount of cool cameos this movie has, great celebritys like Elton John and Elvis Costello. And there's also a 'big' role for the brilliant Alan Cumming as a documentary director, who wants to film a documentary about the bold eagle...just kidding, about the Spice Girls(Duh!). Again, the girls look great but I have my own personal favourite. Sporty is too Sporty and masculine for my taste, Mel B is too 'agressive', Geri is way too fat here(), Emma looks really really cute, but I just love Victoria...she's so Victoria. But unfourtunately, they all started to look like crap after this movie, especially Victoria. Geri made a big improvement and is really really thin and blonde, and actually looks great. But, who cares about them? Let's talk about the 'movie'. This isn't a movie really, I mean there's barely a plot, it's full of musical numbers and it's called Spice World and it stars the Spice Girls...So, I don't think that the word 'movie' is for this 93 minutes of bubblegum. The thing that made me laugh like an idiot was the scene of the Mr. Step dance lesson. It was hilarious! Why? Because the movie was hilarious? Well, not really. Why then? Because of the stupid song they sang, just listen to the lyrics: 'We're the Spice Girls, yes, indeed Just Girl Power is all we need We know how we got this far Strenght and courage and a wonderbra Could this work with only one? Just with me I'd have no fun Would this work with only 2? We need more for what we do Would this work with only 3? 3's a crowd, bad company Would this work with only 4? No way girl, we need one more Listen up Take my advice We need 5 for the power of Spice' I mean, isn't that the exact opposite of what happened? They all split up and are on their different ways, this movie now is quite funny with all the references to all their succes and that now they are a bunch of 'losers', esxpect for Geri Halliwell, who at least has a well known cover of 'Itīs raining men'. But the rest...what happened to them? Anyway, this movie is, like I said, for only a certain audience. Not for old men, definitely not for someone who never liked the Spice Girls. I used to like them, I was like 10 when this movie hit the theaters, and I admit it, I loved it. We were in love with these girls, like the rest of the world. But all that is left behind now, but I saw the movie in the point of view of a 10 year old and as fan of the Spice Girls. There's nothing else to say. The movie could have been much much worse, but it's not that bad. The real rating for it as a movie would be a 0/10, but come on! Is this really a movie? It doesn't try to be one, the only one that did was the lame ass Crossroads (4/10 or D+) and look at the result...This baby has it all: Cool music(Again...if you like the girls), it looks great with lots of frisky colours, it's quite enterteining, it has some good lines and it's not long. So overall, as a Spice fan, is not a bad movie at all. That why it gets a very low 7/10 (B-) from me. GRADE: *** or 7/10 or B- Sad man. |
