| This movie can be summed up as a super idea that went horribly, horribly wrong. I can't put my finger on what exactly is wrong with this film, but wow-fix it stat! Sean Connery was quite good, Stuart Townsend was quite good, and Peta Wilson was a lot of fun. The plot is based on a wonderfully innovative graphic novel, but in spite of all the things this project had going for it, it falls far short. The characters never really seem to mesh (and could Nemo have been anymore of a stereotype?), the special effects are anything but special (Mr. Hyde-hello, could you have possibly done a worse job on the f/x shots here?), and the main set piece of the film (the ship Nautilus) is so horrible looking that people in the theater were actually laughing. Not a good sign, people. If you're in the mood for a good comic book movie, just about anything else ever made is better than this...and that really is a shame. |
