The Insider- 10/10 Probably the best film of the '90s. It's neck-and-neck right with The Silence Of The Lambs for that accolade. This is simply superb filmmaking. And this is also Michael Mann's most mature film to date and also his best film since Thief(1981), my favorite movie ever(<--see my profile). The directing, the acting, and especially the writing make this a true cinematic masterpiece. The dialogue is in a large part journalese and very convincing I might add. Christopher Plummer as Mike Wallace is priceless and the scene where he argues with Gina Gershon is the best of its kind since Jack Nicholson's famous "toast" scene in Five Easy Pieces. Sorry, I know, wild tangent there. I simply love this movie. Every detail is impeccably placed. I don't even like Russell Crowe all that much, but in this movie he truly meshes. Pacino is fucking terrific; and he hadn't really done anything to impress me in years. Stylistically, Michael Mann is the coolest director on the planet and on this one he really shines. The cinematography, art direction, and costume design are all flawless as per usual in any Mann film. The ending is superb. I simply fucking HAVE to get this DVD. (Also it is nothing short of sin that Michael Mann didn't win the Best Director Oscar and that this film lost the Best Picture award to the overrated American Beauty in 1999!)
