Say Anything is a great film. I've been a fan of Cameron Crowe's for a long time and this film contains some of the best dialogue he has written 'I gave her my heart and she gave me a pen' gets me every time. The performances are excellent from the entire cast but those of John Cusack and Ione Skye really stand out, Cusack comes across as the perfect everyman and makes Lloyd easy to like and easy to identify with. I also love Ione Skye's character, Diane Court, the characters are well written enough for you to not only want Lloyd to end up with her but to really understand why he wants to. The film is packed with memorable moments; The 'In Your Eyes' scene, Lilli Taylor singing all the songs she's written about her boyfriend, among others. It shows that this is Crowe's first film as director but the story is such that he does not need to use any flashy camera or editing tricks meaning that his inexperience behind the camera is no hinderance and he is able to concentrate on getting a great cast to deliver his dialogue. Say Anything 8.5/10 A side issue but; This has to be the best film to have gone straight to video (as it did in the UK) [This message has been edited by SAI (edited 02-08-2002).]
