It was a movie that had the purpose of setting up all the major plot points. Anakin is now Obi-Wan Kenobi's apprentice, Palpatine is now Chancellor. Now, onto the really exciting second part - Attack of the Clones. This film ended up topping TPM for me for a lot of reasons. It was less kiddie and more dark. This was no surprise, since this story is ultimately leading to Anakin becoming Darth Vader. We got less of Jar Jar, more exciting action sequences, and a plot that dives deeper into what the Sith are up to. Yoda fighting was probably the highlight of the film for most people. For me, it was one of the highlights, but I was more facinated with the plot of the Clone Wars and how the Sith are ultimately behind it. The war itself was better and more grittier than the diversion battle on Naboo in Ep. I. I liked the Death Star reference too. That was a nice touch. But again, for some reason people trash this movie. Why? It's not bad. It's flawed, but those types of flaws are forgivable. So what if the romance was cheesy at times? So what if the acting was off here or there? Ultimately, as a whole it has a great story, and it's a fun ride. That's all that really matters with Star Wars. And I found this story to be much more unique that the old trilogy films. With the old ones, everything's already established, and it's just good guys VS bad guys. With the prequels, it's about how those people came to be, and why the universe is the way it is by the time of the old trilogy. I find that the how and why is much more interesting. Again, JoBlo gets it right with his rating of 8/10. He gets it. |
