Well I reviewed this in the AOTC thread but I will put some short comments here. I do not feel AOTC even comes close to the original trilogy just like TPM. Maybe that is because I was there in the theaters as a 10 year old for ANH. Did I like AOTC yes it is a Star Wars movie, and with all it's faults it is the only place you can see lightsaber duels and the Star Wars Universe unvailed. I think the duels in AOTC fell a bit short, TPM had much better utilization of the Lightsaber. I know the Yoda duel was kick ass but in comparrison to the Maul duel it was not long enough or acrobatic enough to eclipse TPM. And maybe it was because I looked at so much info before the movie but the Arena scenes did not live up to what I had expected. Too fast with little to no one on one fighting. I loved the scope but there was no Gladiatoresque tension to me. For me the crowning moments of AOTC where as follows. The Jango/Obi interaction, fight, asteroids. The Obi clone facility investigation, that felt like Star Wars. Yoda! The visuals and the music and sound effects. Actually damaging things when a lightsaber hit them, unkike in ROTJ when Luke slices people and they just fall to the side. The things I disliked. The wooden acting, although it seemed a bit better the second time around. It seemed like I caught some of the more subtle emotions that the characters where trying to convey. Over use of the CGI, the Anakin riding the cow scene and whenever they jumped onto an animal. The C3PO mucisal heads bit. Over all I rarely felt the same charge as I did with the other Star Wars movies. I would just start to get into a scene and it would end, especially the massacre of the sand people. Now that I think about it, it seems like all the major actions scenes except the end arena battle where very short, much shorter than they would have been in any other SW flick. Compare the asteroid fight from Empire or the pod race from TPM to the asteroid hunt between Obi and Jango in AOTC. And I keep thinking about this so it must be my largest peeve. It was the beauty shots of the pairs of Jedi as they established that the arena was populated with Jedi, right after Mace says the party is over. All the shots where the same, two jedi per shot, ignite your saber and pose. It was almost like Lucas had a "be a jedi day" at Lucasfilm and had anyone who wanted to show up, stand in front of an arena background and get into costume and do a two second pose down. That is just the impression it gave me. I originally gave it a 8/10 but I have to move that down to a 7/10 after my second viewing, I was actually bored at times, in a Star Wars movie! I still think the originals are better overall but I am still looking forward to EPIII. Hey I know people hate to hear this but it is Star Wars dammit and overall I liked it. There not meant to be Oscar worthy flicks but fun popcorn fair and you havet to take them that way. Out...............
