It was pretty hard for me to say anything positive about Phantom Menace, but AOTC pretty much kicks ass. The acting is now much more lively, the script is tighter and effects are even better. But most importantly the film is way better directing-wise. Lucas is still sub-par with actors, but the action sequences are tremendous fun to watch, the visuals are a lot more interesting and atmospheric, and the pace is tighter and more varied than in PM. Along with keeping things generally faster moving, Lucas also thankfully understands to slow down the pace a few times to give us some sense of wonder in these wonderfully crafted imaginary worlds. Character development and story were more interesting this time around and I appreciated the few darker touches. But more than everything else the film is saved by the awesome action sequences and stellar visuals. The script is admittedly a bit weak with some lousy dialogue and some mis-judged scenes. Acting is also pretty wooden at times and Lucas stages the dialogue scenes in a very static way. But if you go to watch AOTC to see good acting and dialogue, you are out of your mind. Just enjoy the eye-candy and the silliness of it all. 7/10. [This message has been edited by Tuukka (edited 05-24-2002).]
