Star Wars: Episode II-Attack of the Clones feels more like a Star Wars movie and far surpasses the dissapointing The Phantom Menace....but to be honest still doesn't beat any of the films of the original trilogy. That is due to the poor and benign script and the rather stale and wooden acting. In the first set of films it seemed the actors were having fun delivering there lines especially Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher...and this is what these two recent films lack. There is none of that cocky, witty and joyous attitude. I thought this hampered Episode 1 especially Ewan McGregor and Liam Neeson...but this time around Ewan McGregor does it better especially with his early scenes with Annakin. We start to see the younger Obi-Wan Kenobi as we knew him in Episode IV and McGregor seems taylor made for this part. The same can be said for Hayden Christensen who has that arrogant brooding attitude that draws him to the dark side...and I liked him in this role. Although most of the romantic scenes with him and Natalie Portman are somewhat corny and stilted...they are good together and she is just beautiful as Padme...and I found their love-story believable. The film is certainly not bogged down by the romantic scenes which is good. The CGI and action scenes are very good and often dazzling...from an opening speeder chase which gets the film of to a flying start I thought to...Kenobi's great fighting scenes with Jango Fett and subsequent chase...to the last 45 minutes of the film which are amazing and extraordinary...with tons of jedi-knight's fighting off monsters and armys etc...Less Jar-Jar was a smart move by Lucas and R2D2 and C3PO provide some funny moments especially what happenes to C3PO was great. Samuel L. Jackson just seems to be happy to be part of the Star Wars phenomenon and his reduced role as Mace Windu is bearable but nothing spectacular...the same can be said for Christopher Lee as Count Dooku he's good but seems old hat for him. Without a doubt the scene stealer of this whole film is Yoda...with a bigger role and more of his old and wise master lines...but when he omes to rescue Obi-Wan and Annakin and battles Count Dooku it is one of the best scenes in the entire series...when he breaks out that light-sabre and starts jumping, twirling and flailing away...the whole audience was cheering him on like I've never seen before...it was a great and soon to be classic moment. Overall as a Star Wars fan this movie does deliver eventhough I like the first 3 movies more...its fun, action-packed, great visuals, basically has something for everyone...and well worth seeing even if you are just a casual fan and want a good summer popcorn movie.
