I just finish watching the newest installment of the Star Wars saga and I must say I was very impressed. The movie starts you out right into the action with the chase scene as ObiWan and Anakin bolt through mesmerizing scenery to hunt down Senator Amidala's attacker. Then it slows down considerably for a while which was a little disappointing. It was like having a massive visual orgasm and then you go through withdrawal for the next hour or so as you have to wade through the robotic love quagmire that Lucas insists on dragging out forever. The plot needed this but true Star Wars fans could have lived without as much of it. I mean for God's sake when Hayden Christensen and Natalie Portman where sitting together on top of that grassy hill, on Naboo, I kept waiting for Julie Andrews to come running out singing. I know all of the critics keep slamming this great film because of the bad dialogue and somewhat flat acting, but no real Star Wars fan is expecting Shakespear when they walk into these movies. They want to see the badass lightsaber battles and mind shattering special effects. This movie provides an escape from the monetary of reality by bringing pure imagination to the silver screen. The last 40 to 50 minutes of this movie make it absolutely worth the five bucks, as the action picks up exponentially. It seems many think Samuel L. Jackson is out of place in Star Wars, but I can remember when many thought the same thing about a certain Harrison Ford. Both of these characters bring a healthy dose of much needed coolness into these episodes. And Mr. Jackson opens up a titanic can of Shaft style whoopass in one of the climatic scenes that really gets your adrenaline pumping. Ewan McGregor was another bright spot. He really fits the part, as ObiWan much more comfortably this time around. I was extremely enthralled by Christopher Lee's performance, as well. He was the catalyst that brought rain to quench the thirst for villainy that was so sorely missed in the last movie. Also I have to mention the fight scene with the master of all master jedi's, Yoda. Oh my God that son of bitch looked like a can opener on crack with that lightsaber. That fight scene was worth the money by itself. With that bad ass little green shit on their side I still can't figure out what the hell they needed the clones for... all they would have had to do is tell Yoda the robots where making fun of his ears and the war would have been over with the groove he was in!! All kidding aside this was an excellent movie that could have been magnificent with a little better acting and dialogue. But as I said before it didn't really hurt it too much. The only movie that was better, as far as story lines go, in my opinion, was The Empire Strikes Back. However, again I must emphasize that you could have combined all of the special effects of the previous 4 movies and the result would still be paltry in comparison to Lucas' newest visual masterpiece in Attack of the Clones, which is why I'm rating this movie a 9/10.
