The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring Review My Rating: 10/10 JoBlo's rating of 7/10 is not accurate IMHO. This movie is absolutely perfect. But one has to like this type of genre to begin with to have this opinion. For people who don't, this film can seem quite slow and boring. For me, this film is the start of the perfect fantasy. Peter Jackson and his team have done a wonderful job at bringing the world of Tolkien to life. I went into this film not knowing much about The Lord of the Rings. I had heard of Bilbo, Frodo, Gollum, Gandalf, and the ring. I knew the ring makes you invisible. But aside from that, I knew nothing. So it was all a new experience for me when I first saw this part of the trilogy. I was totally amazed at how great it was. I had never seen anything like it. The story was touching, and it had a sense of wonder to it with all the new fantasy locations we were taken to, such as Hobbiton, Mordor, Rivendale, Moria, Lothlorien, etc. I felt like we were uncovering a long lost past. It was very fantasy-like, but it had an incredible sense of realisim to it that makes you think that maybe all of this happened in a history long forgotten. And that was the intention of Tolkien. He wrote the books as if they were real history. Peter Jackson and his crew pulled this off wonderfully. With this type of film, with all the special effects, it would be easy to loose focus on the characters. But with this film, they had Tolkien's books, written over the course of two decades, as reference to what the film should be like. They made sure that first and foremost the films would reflect the essence of the books. And they did. They tapped into what the characters were all about and the emotions that filled each of their hearts. I can't say much more except that this film captured the true essence of Tolkien. It was wonderfully acted, and the story keeps you wanting more. Thankfully we got two more movies after this! I highly recommend the Extended Version DVD over the theatrical version. It adds so much more depth to this movie as well as the entire trilogy, and it specifically clarifies some plot elements that are in The Two Towers that are unclear if you only saw the Theatrical Version of FOTR.
