Okay, so I didn't read the books, and everyone says that I probably wouldn't like the book so maybe it just wasn't my movie. This movie inconsistant. The first hour of the movie was very strong. The first six minutes with Sauron was awesome. I loved the shire and especially the fireworks scene. The beginning brought a warm and comfortable intoductions. and I liked it for a little bit when they first left. The scene where they were hiding from the guys on horses and the people were hiding from them was very tense. And it brought this movie to a great start. and then, well, it lost it. Here's the part where I bitch about the movie. First of all, I didn't give a damn about any of the characters except Bilbo Baggins, only in the first forty minutes of the movie. Everyone else I absolutely didn't care about. Some of them were just plain annoying. This is probably because THEY DIDN'T GIVE THEM ANY BACKGROUND AT ALL, MUCH LESS ANY CHARACTER. I was getting so annoyed with the fact I had to care for these people. Another problem I had is that the dialogue and some important plot scenes were very redundant. After about the first 90 minutes of the movie not one person had anything important to say whatsoever. They just went on and on about shit we already knew or shit we just didn't care about. And it took up a lot of the movie. Now I don't care about this movies length(I have a very high threshold for long movies) its just it gets to be redundant I get annoyed. Especially Cate Blanchette's character. She's made out to be so important but all she says is the same useless crap over and over again. Then some of the action scenes took up to much space, or were somewhat implausable (shooting a giant goblin close up with an arrow??) another bitch i'll have to make is the music. Now the music was okay, but it was overdone and used way too much. They'll blast over-composed theatrical action music during a scene of just two people in a conversation. Or a scene where something slow and tense could be used, or silence. I got sick of the music after a while. It gave me headaches. It could've been done a lot better. Of course you should watch it because everyone thinks its excellent. I must be different |
