First installment of fantasy adventure trilogy starring Elijah Wood as a mythic youth in medieval fantasy world who is burdened with the task of disposing of a ring that could confer enormous powers of evil should it fall into the wrong hands. Ian MacKellen co-stars as a wizard. A faithful adaptation of the Tolkien cult classic that spawned Dungeons and Dragons, and most computer fantasy games. The special effects are awesome beyond description, and Tolkien fans are ecstatic. Ninety-eight percent of movie-goers are enchanted by this film, and the rest of us were really bored.
