I have seen this movie twice now and am just totally blown away by it. It now goes to the top of my list of favorite movies of all time!
I dont know much about the books but I would say PJ did an excellent job with the material. You have to remember PJ had to make a movie that appeals to the average movie-goer not just die-hard Tolkien fans!. PJ put his career on the line by making this classic, having shared the burden of 300+ million with New Line on a gamble that must pay off!. Im sure New Line pretty much gave PJ free reign with making this movie, but Im also certain they gave him a few guidelines to bide by, like making the material more appealing to the general public, lets face it, theirs too much money on the line to risk making a word for word adaption of a film to please LOTR purists!.
This by far is the most advanced fantasy movie ever made. It is just a relief to see that the director and crew made a fantasy movie so real and serious it does'nt come off as being "campy". I found myself having more emotion and care for the characters in this movie than I did for Pearl Harbour, and thats just wrong given the serious manner the material of that movie was based on!.
One last time, go see this movie if you havent already, It is a classic. |
