9/10 I haven't read any of the books and know very little about the whole background and following of it. I went into the film with a lot of hopes because of all of the hype and i wasn't disappointed. The film for me is one of the best this year and helped the sag that this year so far has had with rubbish like Pearl Harbour and Tomb Raider. The acting was great all around especially Ian McKellen, the direction was excellent and the CGI was better than most have been up to now. The other thing i liked about the CGI was that it , other than being very realistic, didn't use special effects just for the sack of having CGI like I felt the Mummy Returns did they where used when needed. The length of the film didn't bother me and considering the film has to cram 2 books into 1 film (as the Fellowship is split into 2 books) it was well done and kept me riveted throughout. I followed the story of the film with ease and nothing confused me and the whole feel was very dark especially the dark lord along with the Orcs etc who you get the feel is true evil not just the James Bond kinda bad guy. The only problem i had was that for me in a world of wizardry and magic this filkm didn't show enough of it. Gandalf opnly used his powers twice throughout (not including the fireworks), but not having read the books i don't know if there should've been more. Unforntunately I know it will not do as well as Harry Potter when it probably should do but I'm sure it will gain Oscar nominations if only for the CGI. Overall I think this is a great movie and I will see it several times on the big screen but i am upset that we have to wait a year before the 2 Towers comes out.
