Ringu-3/10 Folks, I saw this horrible film on DVD last weekend to satisfy my obsession with the great movie that came out last fall... mainly due to the comments our fellow shmoes gave about how stunning and scary it was... and though many will tell you things like "Ringu was so much better", or "this movie was just an american copy of the original -- you should see the original", I found the original to be CRAP! that's right -- C-R-A-P -- CRAP!. The story was quite different and not nearly as dark and mysterious, the tape had maybe two of the creepy scenes in The Ring and not much else of interest (unless you are from Japan maybe), Samara seemed like 8-feet tall, and the Japanese mother sure was a moron! And the estranged father was just ordinary like all the other characters (knew nothing about the science of video). There wasn't a ranch story going on here, instead it had something to do with a volcano eruption, or something to the extent.... so not much of a puzzle to piece together about Samara's disturbing life. Basically, The Ring was a brilliant remake, and although Ringu is that original one floating out there that had a nice idea, it just didn't appeal to me at all... so if you're not a movie geek, and are just tempted to watch the orig. due to the spookiness of the new movie, you might ought to just skip this rental altogether and save yourself the $$s. I'm looking forward to The Ring 2... |
