| Posted by: Moviejunkie at November 18, 2002, 4:54 pm | | Topic: Reviews: The Ring Forum: JoBlo | | Review- well THE RING is certainly a bizarre movie... i just got back from the theater and i`m still a "little" disturbed but not quit as freaked out as i expected. overall the acting is good, the story is pretty solid and the cinematography is impressive but i thought the ending could have been a little more interesting. and at times it was a little slow. but once the story starts picking up it becomes much more intense. and to be honest i didn`t find this movie scary, it`s really more of a mystery with horror elements. but i will say it`s a rather morbid film, those scenes with dead people are pretty strange and will give a wierd feeling inside. but this movie is nothing that will make you jump out of your chair. however, this is not the goal of the movie. it`s more of a "thinking man`s" horror film. Conclusion and Recommendations- overall i like the movie and i would say that it`ll make you think. but keep in mind it`s not one of those 'mindtrip' films like MULHOLLAND DR or MEMENTO that will have you trying to figure out EVERY little detail of the movie but it`s close to that, but it`s much easier to follow. and to me for some reason, it kind of seems like a cross between ONE HOUR PHOTO and FINAL DESTINATION... instead of a using photo`s to tell the story, in this movie they use a video tape and a "death" theme to expand on the plot and add mystery to the whole thing. and this idea works rather well in the movie! i would recommend THE RING to anyone that liked THE SIXTH SENSE and/or ONE HOUR PHOTO and to anyone that liked FINAL DESTINATION.... or if you`re just looking for a different kind of horror film this is it! final Score- 7.8 out of ten |
