I’ll have to take back my distaste for remakes, as this was credible. I still don’t like the idea of TCM and Carrie though. I had my doubts about Verbinski and Krueger but they came through to deliver a quality suspense picture filled with the kind of bleak atmosphere I love. The screen was bleak, dark and somber with little let up and the screenplay delivered little to no comedy breaks as well as a multi-layered mystery. Naomi Watts was on again as the heroine who you where always pulling for. On the negative side the kid actor was nothing special, playing the same role as the kid in Signs - wide-eyed and seeming to know everything. Why can’t these kids be normal? Luckily he doesn’t have much screen time. The Ring is a highly recommended movie and another one to add to my DVD collection. |
