SIGNS by M. Night Shyamalan This movie is GREAT. Honestly, I loved it. I don't know what to say, except that I agree with JoBlo's review overall. For me, this flick registers as somewhere in between Hitchcock and the early-years Steven Spielberg (the one from JAWS and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND). It's scary, it's funny, it's moving, all that in the same time. It doesn't show much, but it makes you fell everything. Credit for it goes to great directing by M. Night Shyamalan (the next Steven Spielberg), and of course to the fabulous script he himself wrote. The cast is also perfect (Mel Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix and the two kids are more or less the only people you see A LOT, but they all deliver fantastic performances, so it's fine). Overall, the movie is great, it builds up a great atmosphere for 80% of its running time, and then ends on a fantastic climax with a very interesting message that I appreciated a lot and concur with. Best movie of the year (tied with MINORITY REPORT) and confirmation (after SIXTH SENSE and UNBREAKABLE) that M. Night Shyamalan is indeed a great director, SIGNS is a definite must-see and soon-must-own-on-DVD for me. 9.5/10
