"T3" is packed with exciting action set pieces. All of them are brilliantly filmed and executed, with heart-pounding suspense and terrific effects. The movie has a number of different action sequences and each has its own style or technique. My personal favourite (though all of them were spectacular) was the crane chase, it had so much going on, the atmosphere was intense and it was filmed and directed flawlessly. --How cool is it to see Arnold Schwarzenegger back being Ah-nuld, being the T-101? It's awesome that's what! Arnold once again gives the performance all he's got and it pays off. The dude is rockin'! He makes lines like "get out" and "I'm back" sound kick-ass! He is backed up by a good supporting cast. Nick Stahl is perfectly cast as John Connor, he has the right look for the part and also is a good actor who needs to get more roles (he was also terrific in 2001's "In the Bedroom"). Claire Danes gives the film that good ol' classic female elegant touch. She has a lot of range as an actress and I sympathised with her somewhat tragic figure of a character. She was having a happy, normal life until her fate intervened and killed many of her relations. I also adored the hot, hot, HOT Kristanna Loken as the TX; she has a lot of presence and was pretty threatening as the villain for the film. --"T3" takes the Terminator story to a new place, with Judgement Day finally happening. This was a shocking move I certainly did not see coming but I was impressed that it did because it showed how willing this new crew are to take the series down a different direction. It also shows this film isn't as formulaic as many of the action films these days. It doesn’t have a big romance story (it is more suggested) and doesn't end on a kiss with all things being happy and the hero having saved the day. The movie has a pronounced sense of dread and ends with a big shock that changes the series completely. I have to applaud the writers/director for choosing to be unique when it is so easy to go down that cliché road these days. --Throughout the film the idea of fate is played with in an entertaining manner, questioning the audience as to whether everyone's fate has been laid out before them and we are only helpless to succumb to that fate, or is fate an option? THE BAD: --To an extent I was annoyed that the Judgement Day story had been changed, and found it a little lazy that it was all resolved with a simple line - "you haven't stopped Judgement Day, you have just postponed it." It didn't bother me as much on second viewing but it still is an annoyance that, to some degree, makes the second's film plot a little pointless in the grand scheme of things, though "T2" is certainly a brilliant film, one of the best action movies ever. RATING: 8/10 - A well-made and highly entertaining sequel that gets better with repeated viewings. I hope there is another, if not many more, Terminator sequels. They certainly are a possibility, as John Connor said, "the story has only just begun". IF YOU LIKED THIS MOVIE I RECOMMEND: The Matrix Reloaded (9/10) The Matrix Revolutions (7/10) Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (9/10) The Terminator (8/10) Terminator 2: Judgement Day (10/10) |
