GANGS OF NEW YORK -- 7/10 Despite being ridiculously slow at times, and not really focused, this film held quite a grip on me throughout most of its 3-hour runtime. I will admit that I felt somewhat disappointed when all was said and done, but in the end, I found that I truly enjoyed this movie. The performances here are top-notch, with DiCaprio really impressing me. His accent was on and off, but that didn't bother me much. Cameron Diaz also threw me for a loop. Very impressive. But obviously, we all know that the real man here is Daniel Day-Lewis.....boy oh boy...the man had a blast with this role!! He brings many dimensions to the character, and he had me cracking up quite a few times. The best performance by an actor of 2002 easily. I'll have to agree with Joblo here, and say that the movie is quite unfocused. Sure, it's about revenge..and gangs...and love....and this..and that....I was a bit confused at times as to what was going on, what was being said......but........when it comes down to it, GANGS OF NEW YORK was a truly magnificent experience for me. Maybe not for everyone, but I for one am glad I watched this, and guarantee, I WILL own this movie.
