| Posted by: willem84 at November 26, 2004, 12:27 am | | Topic: Reviews: Team America: World Police Forum: JoBlo | | I went into "Team America: World Police" with high expectations, expecting the film to make even more statements than "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut," but instead got a film that started out making strong political statements against the war on Iraq (undertone, of course) and then sort of bottled off for entertainment value poking fun of American culture in general, which is perfectly fine, just not what I was expecting. Apart from the celebrity jokes, the "American" way of handling war and just how 'materialistic' and 'hearless' we can be as a country that the film addressed I also loved the songs--My favorites being "Everyone's god Aids" and "Pearl Harbour Sucks"--a great song, and a good point on an entirely different level that does have to say about the culture of America, being 'patriotic' and all, but at the same time it kind of takes away from the message and puts the focus on how horrible "Hollywood" cinema can be. It seemed like they tried to fit too much into one movie and didn't really focus enough on one particular area. I remember thinking at one point in the film, this is extremely different than it was an hour ago in the movie, and it seemed like they just ran out of ideas at one point and made some big blow-up Hollywood ending, just like everyone else--maybe that 'was' the point but it didn't get across that way, and though I found the movie entertaining, I still didn't like it as near well as I'd hope as far as expectations on statements concerning the war. 7/10 |
