It seems like cursing and toilet humor...which it is on top. What people don't recognize is that this movie has alot of intelligent humor also. Made to resemble the Thunderbirds cartoon of yesteryear Team America boasts great looking puppets and extremely elaborate sets. It's a satire on the state of the world today as well as many action movies past. Trey Parker and Matt Stone do an excellent job in making fun of almost everyone without actually taking a side. Alot of people (Sean Penn) have bashed Team America. Not for making fun of him, but for making light of terrorism. Terrorism is not a laughing matter he says. I agree, and I'm sure Parker and Stone agree as well. However their job is to make people laugh. Terrorism is fueled by fear. When we are afraid is when the terrorists are doing their job well. If there were no humor in the world we would be much easier targets for terror. Not being able to laugh we would be constantly stressing over things never able to relax and take a deep breath. One thing is clear from Team America...Terrorism is bad. If we can't eventually laugh or make fun of something then we'll always have to worry about it to some extent. I applaud Parker and Stone for making this movie...it's funny and not meant to condone any type of terrorism. That being said the laughs come early and often. The sharp dialogue delivered mostly by Parker and Stone is what keeps team America going. There were several moments that had me laughing so hard I almost cried. Shot were taken at almost everyone imagineable...including the puppets themselves. I know everyone has heard about the infamous puppet on puppet action and well it was pretty damn funny. I don't however see what the MPAA was so against. Lets just say when two marionettes get naked...well there's not a whole lot to see. The sountrack also provided many laugh out loud moments. This wasn't a musical like South Park was, but being a satire well even the lyrics to the songs were satirical. Nobody does music like Stone and Parker. From the main theme America : Fuck Yeah, to the broadway musical..Everyone has AIDS, to the extremely moving Pearl Harbor Sucked the music itself provides many moments of comic relief. The sets were also great and extremely well designed. It's hard to think how much work actually went into designing them. Very elaborate stuff. Acting was ...well they're puppets for gods sake. The dialogue was sharp though and kept everyone interested. Nothing like puppets cursing up a storm to make people laugh. All the in jokes were great. Film Actors Guild (F.A.G.) being one of my personal favorites. And well everyone was there. you've got..Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Helen Hunt, Susan Sarandon, Samuel Jackson, Janeen Garafalo, Michael Moorer, Ethan Hawke, Martin Sheen, Matt Damon, and of course the ring leader Alec Baldwin. Think any of them are assholes??? If so you'll enjoy the grizzly fates they all encounter. Kim Jong Il was very funny as well. Loved the lisp. It was great to hear and recognize some voices straight out of South Park. Well I've said enough. Team America : World Police is a very funny movie if you're not easily offended. And if you are well I hope you meet the same fate as Sean Penn. Oh and one more thing.....Matt Damon. Team America : World Police 8/10 |
